Newbury Rugby FC unveils 1st XV squad for its 80th season

Club Open Day 9.30am 9th August 2008.

Newbury Rugby FC will unveil its new 1st XV squad for the 2008-09 playing season at the club’s open training day on Saturday 9 August. The squad can be seen in action on the training pitch at Monks Lane from 9.30am onwards. Following the training there will be a team photoshoot when the players and coaches will be available to meet supporters, sponsors and media.

“This is the start of a crucial season for Newbury and local support will be very, very important to us,”
said Ben Sturnham, newly appointed 1st XV head coach and ex-England international player. “We
have a lot of new faces in the squad and the players are keen to make an impression and meet the
people who matter – our supporters. We hope our regular club members can come along, and it
would be great to see new supporters as well.”

The training day is open to everyone – members and non-members of the club – and it’s free entry.
For those that have never been to the club, it’s an opportunity to come and have a look around.
“As well as playing entertaining rugby, we want our 1st XV players to get involved with the local
community,” commented Julian Lewis, chairman of professional rugby. “The open training day marks
the start of that activity, which will continue with our community coaching in schools, the 1st XV’s
involvement in the youth section of the club, and various other activities.”
