Mark Irish

Mark joins Newbury on a season long loan from Bristol. He made an impressive first performance for The Blues against Bath making a number of good carries and some big tackles. Mark is a former England U21 prop and earned a contract with Bristol in February 2005 having been released by Gloucester at the end of the 2003-4 season. He represented England Students in 2005-6 and signed a 2 year contract extension with Bristol in November 2006.

Wayne Thompson

Wayne also joins Newbury on a season long loan from Bristol. He represented England U19 at prop and was part of the Bristol U21 squad and then the Academy. He Attended Marlwood School and Bristol University. Wayne has played for England Students and also featured for England U21 in the 2005 Six Nations and U21 World Cup in Argentina. Wayne signed a new two year deal with Bristol in Spring 2006.

Andy Reay

Andy is a centre with premiership experience at both Harlequins and Bristol. He spent the end of last season on loan a Moseley and was instrumental in helping them avoid relegation. One particular performance away at Doncaster was outstanding where Andy pulled all the strings in attack and organised the defence brilliantly. Andy has also been capped at England U21 level and was born on April Fool’s Day 1983!

Jonny Hylton

Jonny was one of Division One’s top wingers last year with Cornish Pirates and enjoyed success in the EDF Cup final win against Exeter at Twickenham. He has also played for England at sevens as well as representing Wasps and Worcester.

Jonny was very popular at Worcester where he was seen as a major part of their 2003/04 promotion winning side. Encouragingly, Jonny sought out Newbury as his preferred club after watching our expansive style of play. His electric pace and evasive running skills are certain to have the opportunity to shine next season.

Chaska Loubser

Chaska is a South African centre who joins us from Henley. He works in his family’s restaurant as manager and has also played for the Blue Bulls. Chaska was one of Henley’s strongest running backs last season and is relishing he chance to prove himself in Division One after just missing out on promotion with Henley last season.

Charlie Perry

Charlie joins Newbury from Bath as a full back/wing. He is moving to Reading University to study in October and contacted us about playing in the 1st XV squad. Charlie was one of the quickest players in the entire Bath squad last season and we look forward to seeing his skills on show at Monks Lane.
